Most emerging Asian stocks and currencies were headed for monthly losses on Wednesday as higher U.S. yields and a firm dollar weighed. South Korea and Taiwan were among the regional gainers, helped by chip demand and AI investment flows.
Regional equities and currencies fell on Wednesday, with oil-importing economies and deficit countries among the weakest. The won was the only regional currency to gain in September, while Indonesia's rupiah remained the worst performer this year.
Most regional currencies are set for monthly losses, with the rupiah down 0.9% in September and the Thai baht and Malaysian ringgit down more than 1.3%. Regional stock markets were mixed, while Thailand shares were on course for their steepest one-day drop since June.

The Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite all finished lower as 10-year Treasury yields hit their highest since June 2007 and 30-year yields since June 2002. The Conference Board said US consumer confidence plunged to a nearly 12-1/2-year low in September, while CarMax rose and Fair Isaac fell 26.5%.
The S&P 500, Nasdaq and Dow all finished lower as the 10-year Treasury yield rose to 5.293%, its highest since June 2007. JOLTS job openings fell and consumer confidence dropped to a nearly 12-1/2-year low.
The benchmark index was little changed as the 10-year Treasury yield rose to 5.078%, near its highest level since 2007. US job openings fell to 7.079 million in August and consumer confidence came in at 81.9, below estimates.
The S&P 500, Nasdaq and Dow all ended lower as oil prices rose and Treasury yields climbed. Nvidia gained after announcing a $150 billion share buyback, while Tesla fell after J.P. Morgan cut its price target.
Reuters roundup of notable U.S. stock movers included Mirum Pharmaceuticals, Meta Platforms and Boeing. The note also cited gains in Nvidia, IonQ and Kodiak Sciences, and declines in Snowflake, MongoDB and Acadia Healthcare.
