Privacy Policy
SquawkNews ("we", "us", "our") operates squawknews.com. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit the site, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Information we collect
Most public SquawkNews sections can be used without an account. A registered account is required to subscribe to or receive granted access to LiveCast. Depending on how you use the service, we collect:
- Account data — your name, email address, email-verification status, account status, and a securely hashed password. We do not store your password in readable form.
- Subscription and transaction data — Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, plan, amount, currency, payment status, billing period, cancellation status, and records of access granted by an administrator. SquawkNews does not receive or store complete payment-card details.
- Security and support data — login timestamps, session records, password-reset and invitation status, approximate registration country supplied by our network provider, a general device/operating-system/browser description, security fingerprints derived from request information, and administrator audit records.
- Communications data — your name, email address, selected enquiry topic, transactional email delivery information, and messages you send through our contact form or directly to our teams.
- Usage data — pages visited, time on page, referrer, browser type, and device type. Collected via Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and PostHog.
- Advertising attribution data — Google click identifiers and registration, checkout, and paid-subscription events. Purchase events include a Stripe Checkout session identifier, amount, and currency, but not card details.
- Click events — which buttons and links users interact with (PostHog autocapture).
If you submit your email address via our waitlist form, we collect your email address and the date of submission.
2. Cookies and tracking
We use the following third-party analytics tools, each of which may set cookies:
- Google Analytics 4 (google-analytics.com) — usage analytics. Google Privacy Policy
- Google Ads (google.com) — advertising attribution and paid-subscription conversion measurement. Google Privacy Policy
- PostHog (posthog.com) — product analytics, including page views and interactions. Session replay is disabled. PostHog Privacy Policy
These analytics tools load automatically on public production pages and may set cookies or use similar browser storage. The site does not load them on localhost or preview environments.
3. Service providers
We use service providers only where needed to operate SquawkNews:
- Stripe processes subscription payments, billing-portal requests, refunds and payment-related fraud controls. Stripe receives payment and transaction information under its own Privacy Policy.
- Resend delivers verification, invitation, password-recovery and service emails under its Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare provides hosting, database, storage, security and network delivery services.
- Google Analytics, Google Ads, and PostHog provide analytics and advertising attribution as described above.
4. How we use your information
- To create and secure accounts, verify email addresses, and authenticate users
- To process subscriptions, maintain LiveCast access, manage cancellation, and provide customer support
- To prevent abuse, investigate security events, and maintain an administrative audit trail
- To understand how the product is used and improve it
- To identify and fix technical errors
- To measure which features are most valuable
- To attribute registrations, checkout starts, and paid subscriptions to our advertising campaigns
- To contact you about product updates (email waitlist only, with your explicit consent)
We do not sell your data. We share limited conversion and attribution events with Google Ads; we do not send payment-card details.
5. Data retention
- Account and access data: retained while the account is active and afterwards only as reasonably necessary for security, dispute handling and legal obligations
- Subscription and transaction records: retained as needed for billing, accounting, fraud prevention and applicable legal requirements
- Authentication tokens: expire automatically; active sessions can be revoked by the user or an authorised administrator
- Analytics data: retained per the configured retention settings of each provider (GA4: 14 months, PostHog: 1 year)
- Email waitlist: retained until you request removal or we delete the list
- Contact enquiries: retained only as reasonably necessary to answer the enquiry, provide support, maintain service records and meet legal obligations
6. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to or request restriction of analytics processing, where applicable
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (EU users: your national data protection authority)
To exercise these rights, email us at support@squawknews.com. We may need to verify your identity, and some transaction records may need to be retained where required by law.
7. Data transfers
Our analytics providers may transfer data outside the EU/EEA. Microsoft, Google, and PostHog participate in frameworks that provide adequate protection for such transfers.
8. Security
We use access controls, hashed passwords, hashed session tokens, encrypted transport, signed payment webhooks and administrative audit records. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
9. Children
SquawkNews is intended for adult users. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be noted with a new "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
