August PCE inflation rose 0.3% month-on-month and 3.4% year-on-year, below expectations. Core PCE rose 0.2% monthly and 3.3% annually, also cooler than predicted. Second-quarter GDP was revised up to a 2.2% annualized rate, while September private sector jobs added by ADP surged to 90,000, exceeding forecasts.
CBOT soybeans fell 0.02% to $12.97-1/2 a bushel by 0107 GMT, while wheat and corn rose; traders also monitored China’s planned tariff cuts excluding soy and US harvest progress ahead of the quarterly stocks report.
Spot gold was little changed at $4,178.59/oz by 0037 GMT and down nearly 6% in September. US PCE price index is due at 1230 GMT and nonfarm payrolls on Friday.
