The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Polo made landfall a little east of Guaymas, Mexico, with maximum sustained winds near 75 mph (120 km/h). The storm is expected to bring heavy rain, storm surge and life-threatening surf to northwestern Mexico.

The hurricane warning along the west coast of Baja California Sur south of Puerto Cortes was discontinued. Polo had maximum sustained winds of 80 mph (130 km/h) and was expected to weaken inland over mainland Mexico later Tuesday.
