The National Hurricane Center said Hurricane Polo was about 15 miles south of Guaymas, Mexico, with maximum sustained winds near 75 mph. It said the core was expected to move inland over southern Sonora within the next few hours.
The NHC said Polo was near 26.9N 111.7W with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph and was expected to move inland over southern Sonora late this morning. It warned of life-threatening flooding, mudslides, storm surge and destructive waves.
The hurricane warning along the west coast of Baja California Sur south of Puerto Cortes was discontinued. Polo had maximum sustained winds of 80 mph (130 km/h) and was expected to weaken inland over mainland Mexico later Tuesday.
The hurricane was located about 270 miles west of Cabo San Lucas with maximum sustained winds near 125 mph. The National Hurricane Center said conditions are expected to begin deteriorating Monday morning.
