Mainland China and Hong Kong shares rose as investors positioned ahead of a US-China presidential meeting this week; AI shares gained after officials agreed to hold AI safety talks.
Shanghai Composite closed up 1% at 3,949.91; CSI300 up 0.7%; STAR50 up 0.3%. In Hong Kong, Hang Seng rose 1.2% and Hang Seng Tech 0.4%. Tech and property shares led, with gains after US-China talks in New York; US side proposed an AI safety notification mechanism for Sept 23-25.
Shanghai Composite index was up 0.6% at 3,933.37 points. China's blue-chip CSI300 index was up 0.4%.
