Indonesia 10-Year Yield Rises to 4-Year High on Fiscal Concerns

Indonesia’s 10-year government bond yield rose to 7.66%, its highest level since October 2022, as U.S. Treasury yields remained elevated ahead of the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision. Although the central bank is widely expected to hold rates steady, investors will look for signals on its policy outlook. Domestically, uncertainty over Indonesia’s MSCI market status deepened concerns about potential foreign capital outflows, while fiscal pressures mounted as oil prices hovered above USD 100 per barrel. The government’s reported plan to provide free education through university could further strain public finances alongside other costly spending commitments. Inflation risks also persisted, with annual inflation accelerating to a three-month high of 3.28% in September, partly reflecting rising food prices linked to El Niño. Last week, Bank Indonesia held its benchmark rate at 5.75% for a fourth consecutive month but raised its deposit facility rate by 25 bps to support the rupiah.
