FCNR Deposit Costs Pressure Private Banks’ Margins

Large private banks, including ICICI, HDFC and Axis, saw year-on-year net interest margin declines in the second quarter. Higher costs on foreign currency non-resident deposits and low margins on related lending contributed to the pressure.
