Viking Therapeutics launches oral maintenance dosing trial of obesity drug VK2735

Viking Therapeutics has initiated an exploratory trial for oral maintenance dosing of its obesity drug candidate VK2735. This new phase follows initial weight loss observed from injections. The trial will assess whether oral tablets or less frequent injections can sustain weight loss, while monitoring safety and drug exposure. Top-line results from the subcutaneous maintenance phase have been reported, and outcomes from the oral-focused phase are anticipated in 2027. Two Phase 3 studies of weekly subcutaneous VK2735 are fully enrolled.
