China Stocks Split on Lingering Caution
The Shanghai Composite fell 0.7% to 3,663 on Thursday, while the Shenzhen Component rose 1.1% to 11,453, as investor caution persisted amid the view that Beijing's latest interventions were aimed more at stemming further market losses than sparking a sustained bull run. Earlier this week, Chinese authorities introduced measures including targeted liquidity injections, lower interest rates on stock buyback loans, and relaxed restrictions on leveraged trading. However, investors remained cautious, noting that a lasting recovery would require stronger economic growth, improved corporate earnings, and a revival in investor confidence. Financial heavyweights such as Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (-1.2%) and Agricultural Bank of China (-1.4%) lagged, alongside energy stocks PetroChina (-7.3%) and CNOOC (-6%). In contrast, CATL (2.7%), BYD (1.2%), NAURA Technology (3.4%), and Luxshare Precision Industry (2.6%) gained.
