Japanese Shares Rebound as Tech Selloff Eases
The Nikkei 225 Index advanced 0.4% to above 63,500 on Monday, reversing losses from earlier in the session as selling pressure on technology stocks eased, while investors continued to evaluate the outlook for the artificial intelligence sector. Oil prices also declined on growing hopes for a diplomatic resolution to the Middle East conflict, easing concerns over inflation and potential interest rate increases. Technology and AI-related shares broadly recovered, led by strong gains in Advantest (4.3%), Lasertec (6.7%), and Tokyo Electron (6.8%). However, Kioxia Holdings fell approximately 14% after the Japanese memory chipmaker issued a cautious outlook, raising concerns that the rapid growth fueled by AI demand could be losing momentum. Screen Holdings also plunged 17% as management maintained its full-year guidance unchanged despite reporting record order intake and continued strength in the semiconductor equipment market.
