Bund Yields Fall in October

Germany’s 10-year Bund yield ended October at around 3.34%, near levels last seen in late August and down more than 20 basis points over the month. Demand for safe-haven assets was supported by concerns over France’s fiscal outlook and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, while the European Central Bank’s cautious policy stance also weighed on yields. Eurozone data released on Friday showed economic growth slowing in Q3, with Germany losing momentum and France unexpectedly slipping into contraction as weaker exports and investment weighed on output. Political unrest in France further fueled uncertainty, while inflation remained persistent across the region. On Thursday, the ECB left interest rates unchanged and offered little guidance on its future policy path. President Christine Lagarde confirmed that policymakers had discussed a rate hike but unanimously opted to hold rates steady, noting that tighter financial conditions were helping to contain price pressures.
