UK Medicines Regulator Approves Novo Nordisk's Wegovy to Treat Form of Liver Disease

The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency conditionally approved the use of Novo Nordisk's (NOVO-B.CO) semaglutide injection, or Wegovy, to treat metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, or MASH, in adults with moderate-to-advanced liver fibrosis. The regulator said Friday the approval for Wegovy is conditional on further results from an ongoing study in adults with MASH and moderate to advanced liver scarring, as further confirmatory evidence of the drug's efficacy and safety is needed for the full marketing authorization. Wegovy is currently approved in the UK for weight management and for the reduction of cardiovascular events in adults.
