Japanese Shares Follow Wall Street Higher
The Nikkei 225 Index climbed 1.1% toward 64,000 on Wednesday, rising for the second straight session and tracking Wall Street higher amid renewed optimism surrounding artificial intelligence. The rally followed Broadcom’s announcement of $63 billion in financing linked to Anthropic’s use of its technology. In South Korea, chipmaker SK Hynix also reported a significant jump in revenue and operating profit, driven by robust AI demand. Meanwhile, oil prices declined amid renewed diplomatic efforts to resolve the Middle East conflict, easing cost pressures on oil-importing economies. Investors also turned their attention to major central bank decisions due this week, with the Fed, ECB, and BOJ widely expected to keep interest rates unchanged, while markets assess the possibility of rate hikes in December. Technology and AI-related shares led the gains, with strong gains from Kioxia (7.3%), Advantest (2.3%), Taiyo Yuden (7.7%), SoftBank Group (2.3%) and Ibiden Co (5.6%).
