Supreme Court on Monday rejected President Donald Trump ‘s bid to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook from the Fed’s Board of Governors.

In a 5-4 ruling, the court said Trump had not followed the procedures required under federal law to remove Cook from the Fed’s board, according to a Reuters News report.

Supreme Court Sides With Cook Chief Justice John Roberts, who authored the ruling, said Trump had “failed to afford Cook the procedural protections to which she was entitled by statute.” The dispute stems from Trump’s August 2025 attempt to remove Cook over alleged mortgage fraud, which she denies.

The ruling returns the case to lower courts, where Cook can challenge the allegations.

Cook rejected Trump’s characterization, saying the case “was never about mortgage documents signed years before I became a Federal Reserve governor,” according to Reuters.
