US Stocks Rise as Chipmakers Rally

US stocks mostly advanced on Tuesday, supported by gains in semiconductor shares, falling oil prices and corporate earnings, as the Federal Reserve began its two-day policy meeting. The S&P 500 rose 0.3%, the Nasdaq 100 gained 0.7%, while the Dow Jones was little changed. Broadcom climbed more than 3% after a consortium of banks and Blackstone announced $63 billion in financing related to Broadcom technology for Anthropic. Other chipmakers also advanced, with Micron rising more than 1%, AMD gaining nearly 3% and Nvidia adding around 1%. JetBlue surged 11% on an upbeat margin outlook, while UPS edged higher after beating earnings expectations. Whirlpool, however, fell more than 1% after reporting a quarterly loss. Investors now await the Fed’s policy decision, with interest rates expected to remain unchanged. Markets will focus on policymakers’ guidance for clues about the potential for further tightening before year-end.
