BWXT Secures Multi-Year Antares TRISO Fuel Contract
BWXT Advanced Fuels will manufacture TRISO nuclear fuel for Antares using HALEU at its Lynchburg, Virginia facility. The agreement provides for an initial allocation of 1 metric ton of uranium, with provisions to increase production through the end of the decade.
BWX Technologies, Inc. announced that its subsidiary, BWXT Advanced Fuels, has secured a multi-year commercial agreement with Antares Nuclear, Inc. to manufacture tri-structural isotropic (TRISO) nuclear fuel. The fuel will be fabricated using High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU) at the company's Lynchburg, Virginia facility.
The agreement establishes a framework for an initial allocation of 1 metric ton of uranium, with provisions to increase production volumes as Antares' advanced reactor deployment requirements evolve through the end of the decade. The fabrication line utilized for this project is the same one previously used for the Department of War's Project Pele and Antares' Mark-0 and Mark-1 reactors.
