Japanese Shares Gain on AI Boost

The Nikkei 225 Index climbed 1.73% to close at 63,268 on Tuesday, ending a three-day losing streak and tracking a rebound on Wall Street overnight amid renewed optimism for the AI trade after Anthropic’s IPO filing. Investors are also awaiting earnings reports this week from South Korean chipmakers Samsung and SK Hynix, alongside major US technology companies such as Amazon, Alphabet, and Microsoft, for further insight into the outlook for AI demand. Meanwhile, markets are preparing for key central bank decisions this week, with the Federal Reserve, European Central Bank, and Bank of Japan all widely expected to keep interest rates unchanged. Japanese technology and AI-related stocks led the gains, with Advantest surging 9.6%, Ibiden Co. climbing 9.1%, SoftBank Group advancing 5.2%, Lasertec rising 5.1%, and Tokyo Electron gaining 2.6%.
