French Stocks Open the Week Higher
The CAC 40 rose 0.6% to 7,830 on Monday, recovering from losses in the previous week as investors awaited monetary policy decision and corporate earnings due later this week. Financial stocks led the gains, with BNP Paribas (1.2%), Crédit Agricole (1.1%) and Société Générale (1.6%) gaining ahead of their earnings reports. Other companies set to report include Airbus, Dassault Systèmes, TotalEnergies, Renault and Sanofi. Hermès climbed 2.5% after reporting H1 revenue of €8.2 billion, up 6% year-on-year, supported by growth across regions. On the monetary policy front, the European Central Bank is widely expected to leave interest rates unchanged, while keeping the possibility of a December rate hike open. Meanwhile, Moody’s recently affirmed France’s Aa3 long-term foreign-currency sovereign credit rating, but maintained a negative outlook in place since October 2025. The decision offered some relief to the government as it faces persistent social unrest and mounting fiscal pressures.
