Australian Equities Subdued

Australian shares were little changed on Wednesday morning, hovering around 8,810 after ending modestly lower in the prior session. Traders awaited appearances by Reserve Bank Governor Michele Bullock and other policymakers before lawmakers Friday, while also looking toward the release of Australia’s flash October PMI data later this week. The subdued tone followed a mixed session on Wall Street overnight. Gains in communication services, healthcare, and commercial services largely offset weakness in logistics, industrial services, and energy-related stocks. Financials provided support, with the four major banks advancing between 0.6% and 1.2%. Among standout performers were Transurban Group (1.8%), Pro Medicus (1.5%), and Brambles Ltd.(1.2%). On the downside, heavyweight miner BHP Group fell 1.3%, along with Fortescue (-1.0%), Sigma Healthcare (-3.2%), and Codan Ltd. (-1.6%).
