Putin floats US-China-Russia summit to end Ukraine war, WSJ reports
US President Donald Trump is already facing blowback from Republicans for his overtures to Putin, including waiving Russia sanctions. Russia’s Vladimir Putin floated the possibility of a summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump to negotiate a deal to end the Ukraine war, The Wall Street Journal reported. The White House hasn’t commented on Putin’s proposal to Trump, but the idea of a three-way meeting at a summit in Shenzhen next month is consistent with Trump’s campaign promise to end the Ukraine war, as well as his personalist brand of foreign policy that favors face-to-face talks with US adversaries. But Trump is already facing blowback from Republicans for his overtures to Putin, including waiving Russia sanctions and agreeing a diesel deal, and the growing revolt threatens additional Pentagon funding.
