UK to invest £140 million in urgent care capacity ahead of winter
Oct 17 (Reuters) — Britain said on Sunday it would invest nearly £140 million ($187 million) in 14 urgent care schemes across England, as the National Health Service (NHS) braces for winter pressures. The funding will support projects including urgent treatment centers, same-day emergency care units, ambulance fleets and emergency department upgrades, while 25 additional urgent care sites are due to open or expand by winter. Seasonal illnesses including flu and norovirus are expected to add to pressure on the NHS this winter, the government said, urging eligible people to get vaccinated.
