UPDATE 1 — Mexico urges Volkswagen, workers to resume talks after wage deal rejected

(Adds detail and context) Oct 16 (Reuters) — Mexico's labor ministry called on Friday on Volkswagen and workers at its facility in the Mexican state of Puebla to resume talks following the rejection of a wage increase proposal. Members of the Automakers' Union rejected a proposed 13.16% across-the-board wage increase valid for two years, the ministry said in a statement. The assembly plant in Puebla is one of Volkswagen's biggest plants and a major export base for North America. Volkswagen did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. Over 5,600 workers, representing 90.3% of the union's members, participated in a vote on the salary increase, with over 3,100 of them rejecting the proposal. The ministry said that, together with the Federal Center for Conciliation, it would continue to support the workers at the assembly plant throughout this process, fostering dialogue and prioritizing a joint solution.
