Japanese Shares Rise on Tech Rebound

The Nikkei 225 Index rose 1.39% to close at 65,324 on Friday, recouping some losses from the previous session as selling pressure on technology stocks eased, while investors continued to evaluate the outlook for the artificial intelligence sector. Sentiment improved after TSMC reported a record third-quarter profit, while Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang defended the financial health of AI computing provider CoreWeave Inc. Meanwhile, Anthropic recorded a nearly twelvefold increase in third-quarter revenue to $16.8 billion. Additionally, Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh refrained from signaling an imminent interest rate hike despite hotter-than-expected US inflation data during his remarks in Bangkok. Notable tech gainers include Kioxia (3.8%), Taiyo Yuden (2.1%) and Lasertec (5.1%). Financial and consumer stocks such as Mitsubishi UFJ (1.8%) and Toyota Motor (2.2%) also advanced. Despite Friday’s rebound, the Nikkei 225 fell 5.37% over the week, marking its steepest weekly decline since July.
