Oct 15 (Reuters) — Continental US power production totaled 79,435 gigawatt hours in the week ended October 10, up 2.6% from a year earlier, trade group Edison Electric Institute said on Thursday. Output was down about 5% from the 83,661 GWh in the preceding seven-day period, EEI data showed. On a year-on-year basis, output rose in five of nine US geographic regions tracked by the group. The Pacific Southwest region recorded the largest year-on-year percentage rise, up 33%, followed by the Rocky Mountain region, up 12%. The Mid-Atlantic region recorded a 6.7% decrease, and the New England region recorded a 5.8% fall. Over the past 52 weeks, US power output totaled 4,416,179 GWh, up about 3.2% from the previous 12-month period, the EEI said.
