TABLE — US generated less ethanol blending credits in September, EPA says
(Adds renewable credits context in paragraph 3, details on August credits and volumes in table) NEW YORK, Oct 15 (Reuters) — The US generated 1.19 billion ethanol (D6) blending credits in September, down from 1.29 billion in August, according to Environmental Protection Agency data. Biodiesel blending credits (D4) rose to 788 million, from 716 million in August, according to the EPA. The credits, known as Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs), are used by refiners to comply with the Renewable Fuel Standard, which requires renewable fuels such as ethanol and bio-based diesel to be blended into the fuel supply. Every gallon of biofuel produced generates RINs and those who do not generate enough credits must buy them in the open market. The following is a table of the credit generation for September by credit type: Fuel (D) code RINs Volume (Gal.)
