US Retail Sales Rise 0.8pc in September, Led by Gasoline Stations
Retail sales increased 0.8pc in September, with gasoline-station sales up 6.4%. Excluding gas, sales rose 0.2%; figures are not adjusted for inflation.
Gasoline stations accounted for much of the headline increase, with sales climbing 6.4% as higher fuel prices fed through. Because overall retail sales are not adjusted for inflation, sales excluding gasoline rose just 0.2%. Furniture stores and food services were among the categories that recorded solid gains.
