EUROPE POWER — Spot power prices rise with lower German wind, French reactor delay

Oct 15 (Reuters) — European spot electricity prices rose on Thursday as German wind power generation was forecast to fall and the restart of a French nuclear reactor was delayed. The German baseload spot electricity contract rose 9.5% to €203.2 ($227.9) per megawatt hour at 0800 GMT, LSEG data showed. The French equivalent contract rose 10.5% to €203.8/MWh, its highest price since January 2023, the data showed. German wind power supply is forecast to fall by 1.7 gigawatts to 12.7 GW on Friday, solar output is set to stay little changed at 9.8 GW, while demand is expected to drop by 1.2 GW to 55.3 GW. In France, wind output is expected to rise by 0.8 GW to 4 GW, solar power generation is set to fall by 1 GW to 3.4 GW, and demand is set to ease by 0.5 GW to 44.8 GW. The restart of the Golfech 2 reactor following an unplanned outage was pushed back to Saturday, after it went offline automatically in the early morning on Wednesday, operator EDF said. French nuclear and thermal availability warnings remain active, and the risk of an extended outage at the Chooz nuclear plant remains elevated, Engie's EnergyScan analysts said.
