INDIA STOCKS — IT leads Indian shares higher; hot US inflation caps gains

(Updates for markets open) Oct 15 (Reuters) — Indian shares opened marginally higher on Thursday, led by information technology stocks, while hot US consumer price inflation raised expectations of another rate hike by the Federal Reserve this year and capped gains. The Nifty 50 rose 0.27% to 22,683.3, while the BSE Sensex edged 0.32% higher to 73,030.04 as of 09:22 a.m. IST. Nine of the 16 major sectors logged losses at the open. The broader small-caps and mid-caps fell 0.7% and 0.2%, respectively. IT index gained 1.5%, taking the index's three-session rise to about 7.8% after upbeat results from HCLTech on Monday. Hotter-than-expected US inflation reinforced concerns over tighter global monetary conditions, a sentimental negative for risk assets such as emerging market equities, two traders said.
