ICE canola slips but outperforms soyoil on harvest concerns
(All figures in Canadian dollars unless noted) WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Oct 14 (Reuters) — ICE canola futures edged lower on Wednesday but were stronger than soyoil, with worries about the Canadian harvest and a weakening Canadian dollar offering support. November canola futures fell $1.60 to $811.70 per metric ton. Losses were slightly higher in deferred contracts. Last week Canadian farmers made fast progress in harvesting their remaining crops, but on the weekend a heavy rain and snow system hit almost all of the prairies, shutting down harvest for days and shrinking the window farmers have left to finish. The wet September weather has caused some yield loss, farmers told Reuters. Anything left on the fields will suffer further losses from shelling out and challenging combining conditions. Brent crude oil stayed above $105 per barrel, providing support for canola oil values, which dominate the overall value of canola. Chicago soyoil fell 1.48%. Soybeans fell 0.51%. GRA/ Euronext rapeseed futures were flat on the day. Malaysian palm futures rose 0.66%. POI/ (Reporting by Ed White; Editing by Perla Velasco) ((ed.white@thomsonreuters.com)
