CBOT corn slips on harvest progress, dry Midwest weather outlook
CHICAGO, Oct 14 (Reuters) — Chicago Board of Trade corn futures eased on Wednesday on rising supplies from the ongoing Midwest harvest and as dry weather was expected across the region following midweek rains this week. Mostly dry weather around the Midwest for the past week allowed farmers to accelerate harvesting after rain delays earlier in the fall. Midweek rains stalled field work in some areas at midweek this week, but drier conditions by the end of the week should allow field work to promptly resume, forecasters said. The US Department of Agriculture said that 33% of the nation's corn crop had been harvested as of Sunday, up from 23% a week earlier but below the average estimate for 38% complete in a Reuters poll of analysts. CBOT December corn settled 2 cents lower at $4.80-3/4 a bushel. (Reporting by Karl Plume; Editing by David Gregorio) ((karl.plume@thomsonreuters.com; +1 313 484 5285)
