EUROPE POWER — German spot electricity price rises on lower wind power forecast

Oct 14 (Reuters) — The German day-ahead power contract rose on Wednesday as wind power generation was expected to fall by about one third. "The dominant supply-side driver is weaker wind, which tightens renewable cover and supports a firmer prompt tone. Wind peaks late in the evening and bottoms in the afternoon, during peak solar hours," LSEG analyst Marcus Eriksson wrote. The German day-ahead baseload power contract was up close to 10% to €189 ($212) per megawatt hour at 0704 GMT, Wind power generation was expected to fall by 7.5 gigawatts to 14.4 GW, while consumption was expected to remain largely unchanged at 56.4 GW. Solar power generation was seen rising nearly 1 GW to just below 10 GW. The equivalent French contract was stable at €186/MWh. Wind power generation in France was seen up by 1.5 GW to 3.2 GW, solar power generation was set to rise 0.5 GW to 4.4 GW, and consumption was expected to remain largely stable at 45.2 GW. French residual load, meaning demand minus wind and solar, was set to fall by 2 GW to 37.7 GW. German residual load was expected to rise by 6.6 GW to 32.2 GW. French nuclear availability remained at 75% of total capacity. POWER/FR
