SoftBank Seeks Tepco Stake
SoftBank is seeking a stake in Tokyo Electric Power to secure power for AI data centers
SoftBank is seeking a stake in Tokyo Electric Power through its telecom unit to help secure power for AI data centers, per Bloomberg.
Masayoshi Son said SoftBank Corp. has put itself forward to become the next owner of Tepco and remains one of the leading contenders.
Son said having Japan's biggest utility inside SoftBank's sphere of influence would support future AI data center buildout in Japan.
SoftBank is also reviewing data center sites in Texas, expects "substantial" profits from its 10GW Ohio project, and recently outlined plans for up to €75B of AI data center investment in France.
