CBOT corn ends flat to weaker on US harvest pressure

CHICAGO, Oct 13 (Reuters) — Chicago Board of Trade corn futures were flat to lower on Tuesday, anchored by rising supplies from the active Midwest harvest. Mostly dry weather around the Midwest for the past week allowed farmers to accelerate harvesting after rain delays earlier in the fall. Some rain is expected in the western Midwest later this week followed by drier conditions that should allow field work to promptly resume, forecasters said. The US Department of Agriculture is due to release its weekly crop progress report later on Tuesday. Analysts polled by Reuters, on average, expect the agency to report that 38% of the nation's corn crop had been harvested as of Sunday. The recent drop in corn prices sparked renewed demand for the grain, most notably by importers in South Korea. GRA/TEND The US Environmental Protection Agency proposed on Tuesday to make larger refiners blend more biofuels into their products over the next two years, a move that would support demand for corn to produce ethanol. CBOT December corn settled 1/4 cent lower at $4.82-3/4 a bushel. (Reporting by Karl Plume; Editing by Cynthia Osterman) ((karl.plume@thomsonreuters.com; +1 313 484 5285)
