Belgian police officer shot dead while investigating carjacking
BRUSSELS, Oct 13 (Reuters) — A Belgian police officer was shot dead in Brussels overnight while investigating a carjacking, local authorities said on Tuesday. The officer, a 41-year-old man identified as Nordine, was in civilian clothes when he inspected a car suspected of having been stolen in a violent carjacking, Brussels public prosecutor Julien Moinil said on Tuesday. Several people have been arrested and several weapons were found at the scene, plus "a significant quantity of drugs", he said. Fatal incidents involving police officers on duty are rare in Belgium.
