Ukraine winter grains helped by early October weather

KYIV, Oct 13 (Reuters) — Weather conditions during the first 10 days of October were generally favourable for the development of sown winter grains and for continued sowing, Ukrainian state weather forecasters said on Tuesday. Moisture reserves in the topsoil across most areas under winter crops were generally sufficient for sowing and for the crops' early development as of October 8, forecasters said in a report. Moisture shortages were reported in some southern, central and western regions, they added. The agriculture ministry said last week that farmers had sown 2.52 million hectares of winter grains, or 48.4% of the expected area.
