("Apex"), the infrastructure powering modern investing, today released its Q3 2026 Apex Investor Pulse report, revealing that Apex clients rotated out of the mega-cap technology names that led the market higher and into SpaceX, the rate trade, and the broader semiconductor complex. The report, drawn from Apex's position at the center of retail investing infrastructure supporting millions of accounts across hundreds of clients, tracks the Top 25 holdings by generation (Boomer, Gen X, Millennial, and Gen Z) alongside the behavioral shifts that define each period, paired with a view of net trading flows across the full quarter.
Q3 2026 Key Findings The third quarter arrived in two acts: a sharp, AI-led momentum break in July, then a rate shock in September that pushed the 10-year Treasury yield to its highest level since 2007. Through both, Apex clients rotated with conviction, selling the mega-cap leaders that got the market here and buying SpaceX, the rate trade, and the broader semiconductor complex. 2 million and the broadest-held new name across account participation, and it climbed to a top-12 holding by market value in every generation, reaching tenth among Boomers.
Mega-cap tech funds the rotation: Five of the six largest net sells were mega-cap technology (Microsoft, Nvidia, Palantir, Apple, and Meta), with the S&P 500 ETF (SPY) the sixth, as clients trimmed the trade's biggest winners rather than exiting the broader market. 2 million to a bitcoin futures ETF (BITO), the quarter's second-largest net buy, as Strategy (MSTR) entered the top 25 of three generational cohorts. Semiconductors rotate beneath the surface: Clients sold the AI and memory leaders (Nvidia, AMD, Micron) while adding the broader complex (Taiwan Semiconductor, Intel, SK Hynix, SanDisk, Broadcom).
"Last quarter we asked what happens when a name like SpaceX comes public and pulls in every generation at once," said Bill Capuzzi, CEO of Apex Fintech Solutions. "This quarter answered the next question: that demand didn't fade once the mega-cap trade wobbled, it just moved. Rather than showing a retreat from market participation, it shows a rotation to where demand and momentum shifted this quarter: into semiconductors, short Treasuries, and the next wave of listings.
" Generational Insights Nvidia, Apple, Tesla, Alphabet, and Amazon continued to anchor every generation's Top 25, but the movement beneath them split along familiar lines: Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X added Strategy (MSTR) and Oracle (ORCL) to their Top 25, the clearest sign yet of the rates-and-crypto trade showing up in holdings, while CrowdStrike (CRWD) joined Gen Z and Gen X's rankings as cybersecurity entered the AI conversation. Boomers rotated into defensives, adding Pfizer (PFE), Walmart (WMT), and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ). Across every cohort, SpaceX consolidated into a top-12 holding, up from its first appearance in the rankings just last quarter.
"What we're seeing is a market getting more selective," said Mike Treacy, VP of Risk at Apex Fintech Solutions. "Clients didn't step back from risk this quarter, they moved it. They sold the stocks that had already run the furthest and added exposure through short-duration Treasuries, bitcoin, and SpaceX, names with very different risk profiles, each one considered on its own terms.
