UPDATE 1 — Kazakhstan's economy grew by 4.2% in January to September period, minister says

(Adds oil production data by field, context in paragraphs 3-5) ASTANA, Oct 13 (Reuters) — Kazakhstan's gross domestic product grew by 4.2% year-on-year in the January to September period, Economy Minister Serik Zhumangarin said on Tuesday. Speaking at a government meeting, he also said that Kazakhstan’s oil production had fallen by 8.3% to 69.4 million metric tons in the same period. Kazakhstan is Central Asia's largest economy, and is heavily dependent on minerals and oil exports, primarily from its three main fields of Tengiz, Kashagan, and Karachaganak. Yerlan Akbarov, Kazakhstan's deputy energy minister, said at the meeting that oil production during the nine-month period amounted to 26.7 million tons at the Tengiz field, 12.8 million tons at Kashagan, and 7.5 million tons at Karachaganak. In August, Kazakhstan began restoring oil production to previous levels following a July decline caused by disruptions to exports via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, by which Kazakhstan ships the bulk of its oil exports to the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiysk.
