Aviation data specialist Asterias secures Lloyd's investment

By Navneeta Nandan Oct 13 (The Insurer) — Lloyd's has invested an undisclosed sum in aviation and leasing data specialist Asterias, a former participant in the Lloyd's Lab innovation programme. Asterias, which works with airlines, insurers, brokers and lessors, said on Tuesday the investment would support product development and expansion into new markets. The company previously received backing from Insurtech Gateway and a group of industry investors. The company, led by co-founder and CEO Andrew Walker, develops infrastructure for sharing and managing asset, lease, policy and loss information across the aviation insurance and leasing sector. According to Asterias, information in the market is often exchanged through documents and email before being manually re-entered by multiple parties. The company said its platform allows data to be captured at source and accessed by authorised participants, while remaining under the control of the organisation that created it. Asterias said the platform provides airlines, insurers, brokers and lessors with a verifiable record of activity relating to aviation assets.
