Lumentum says optical capacity fully booked through early 2029
Lumentum Holdings said production capacity for optical components is fully booked through early 2029, with AI data center demand outpacing supply. CEO Michael Hurlston said Lumentum cannot meet about 70% of demand for certain products through next year, and separate product lines face a 30% shortfall through 2028. Demand is concentrated in advanced indium phosphide photonic components, and sold-out capacity extended from 2028 to early 2029 in six months despite accelerated expansion.
Lumentum Holdings said its optical component production capacity is fully booked through early 2029 as demand from AI data centers continues to outstrip supply. Chief Executive Michael Hurlston said the company cannot meet about 70% of demand for certain products through next year, while separate product lines are facing a 30% shortfall through 2028. The demand is centered on advanced indium phosphide photonic components used for high-speed data transmission in AI servers and cloud data centers. Lumentum said it is accelerating production expansion, but it still cannot meet customer demand.
The company said its sold-out capacity outlook has moved from 2028 to early 2029 in just six months.
