BP curbs Gulf of Mexico production ahead of Hurricane Isaias

BP temporarily curbed production and evacuated personnel from its Na Kika and Thunder Horse platforms in the Gulf of Mexico as Hurricane Isaias approaches.

By Adam Whittaker BP said it has temporarily curbed production and removed all personnel from its Na Kika and Thunder Horse platforms in the Gulf of Mexico as it prepares for Hurricane Isaias. S. now calls the Gulf of America, have been cutting production and evacuating personnel from offshore facilities. The storm has intensified and is expected to make landfall on the northern Gulf Coast on Friday or early Saturday.

BP said Thursday that it has also removed non-essential personnel from its Argos, Atlantis and Mad Dog platforms. Shell, Chevron and Harbour Energy have all shut-in production and evacuated some personnel from select facilities. 9% of current offshore oil output, had been shut in as of Thursday morning, up from about 511,600 barrels a day the day before. Personnel had been evacuated from 121 production platforms and five drilling rigs.
