NVDA reportedly plans to invest in privately held AI chip rival d-Matrix, according to three people familiar with the deal, as the chipmaker increasingly embraces partnerships with competing AI hardware developers. d-Matrix develops specialized processors for running AI models, positioning the company in the growing market for lower-latency AI applications. On October 8, NVIDIA-backed Upscale AI introduced Token Fabric, combining NVIDIA Spectrum-X networking with open infrastructure designed to connect AI chips from multiple suppliers.

The startup's CEO endorsed Upscale's architecture for integrating its memory-centric AI processors into data centers, highlighting its focus on interoperability across competing hardware platforms. The reported investment would deepen NVIDIA's exposure to specialized inference chips while supporting an ecosystem where competitors' processors operate alongside NVIDIA infrastructure.
