By Krystal Hur CME Group is diving into baseball. The Chicago-based exchange operator said Thursday that it plans to launch futures contracts tied to CME FutureSports performance indexes. The indexes will include statistics on the 30 professional baseball teams, beginning with the Major League Baseball postseason and the four teams that will remain in the playoffs next week. The new contracts will launch Monday, pending regulatory review, and trade around the clock, CME said. The initiative follows a similar move CME and FutureSports made with National Hockey League indexes announced in August. It also holds notes familiar to prediction markets, which CME has waded into over the past year. CME had pulled back from prediction markets in recent months. The company in August filed to stop offering additional expiries for event-based contracts tied to sports and cultural events on its CME Globex platform.
