Dow Jones midday averages slip modestly

At 12:00 ET, the Dow Jones averages showed mixed moves: Industrials were down 396.72 points and Transports were down 193.58 points, while Utilities rose 2.15 points. The 65-stock Dow Jones index was down 104.10 points.
