Izmir mayor joins Erdogan's AK Party

Cemil Tugay, mayor of Turkey's third-largest city Izmir, has joined President Tayyip Erdogan's ruling AK Party (AKP), the party announced on Wednesday. Tugay, elected mayor in March 2024 as a candidate of the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), had quit the CHP in June.
