Canada trade surplus widens to C$4.2 billion in August

OTTAWA, Oct 6 (Reuters) — Canada's trade surplus widened to C$4.20 billion ($2.94 billion) in August, as exports grew and imports fell, Statistics Canada said on Tuesday. This was the sixth consecutive monthly surplus. The Canadian dollar appreciated 1.1 U.S. cents in August versus the July average, affecting trade values. This was the strongest monthly increase since December 2025. Exports grew by 2.5%, on energy products, as well as consumer goods. Imports fell by 2.0%, on motor vehicles and parts, as well as metal and non-metallic mineral products.
