Japanese Shares Rise on Wall Street Lead
The Nikkei 225 Index advanced 1.05% to finish at 70,684 on Tuesday, scaling a three-month high as Japanese equities followed Wall Street’s strong performance and investors looked past concerns over elevated bond yields. Market sentiment was also lifted by softer oil prices as signs of increased Middle Eastern supply eased pressure on Japan’s import-dependent economy. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi continued to pursue expansionary fiscal measures despite concerns surrounding the weak yen and rising domestic bond yields. In corporate developments, Toyota Motor Corp. is turning to its new Land Cruiser FJ to strengthen its position against intensifying competition from Chinese automakers, with sales across Japan and Southeast Asia exceeding initial expectations. Technology and AI-related shares were among the biggest gainers, led by Advantest (3.9%), Taiyo Yuden (6.2%), Fujikura (5.2%), Murata Manufacturing (1%) and Lasertec (0.8%).
