Malaysia repatriates 10,000 Myanmar nationals since January

Malaysia has sent back approximately 10,000 Myanmar nationals to their country since January, as part of efforts to repatriate refugees fleeing a civil war that erupted after a 2021 coup. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that some were returned by plane arranged by the Myanmar government, while around 1,400 were returned by sea last week under a bilateral arrangement. Anwar acknowledged concerns about safety risks but said Myanmar authorities had given assurances against harm.
