Ford Sales Slide 6.6% After Model Phase-Outs
Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F ) on Friday reported a 6.6% year-over-year decline in third-quarter U.S. vehicle sales as planned portfolio changes weighed on volumes. Ford sold 509,764 vehicles during the quarter. Excluding the planned phase-out of the Escape and Lincoln Corsair, however, total vehicle sales were essentially unchanged from a year earlier. The automaker said the broader U.S. industry declined about 1%. Ford Gains Retail Share Ford estimated its third-quarter retail market share, excluding the Escape and Corsair, increased about 0.4 percentage points from a year earlier to 12.1%. The automaker sold 1.52 million vehicles through September. Truck and van sales totaled 891,400 vehicles during the first nine months. F-Series remained a major driver. Sales reached 561,508 trucks through September, more than 140,000 ahead of the Chevrolet Silverado, Ford said. September F-Series sales increased 2.4% to 67,448 vehicles.
