Baltic Dry Index Up for 2nd Day

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, was up for a second session on Friday, rising about 0.3% to 3,148 points, buoyed by the bigger-size segment. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes, including iron ore and coal, also increased for the second session, advancing 0.6% to 5,042 points. On the other hand, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, fell by 0.3% to 2,372 points; and the supramax index decreased by 0.3% to 1,789 points.
